Deploying an AI-generated app to production
Generated an app in ChatGPT, Claude, Bolt or Lovable and it only runs on your computer? I add the database, authentication, security, backups, domain and HTTPS — what generated code does not have. I name the price after I have seen the code.
It works on localhost. Now what?
This is the most common situation people come to me with. You generate an app in ChatGPT, Claude, Bolt or Lovable that does exactly what you wanted. On your machine it works. And that is where it stops, because getting anyone else to use it takes a whole second half of the work.
That is neither your fault nor the model’s. Generated code solves the feature, not the operation. It keeps data in memory or in a file, has no authentication, no backups, no error handling, and its configuration including API keys tends to sit right in the code. Put that online and it works — until the first restart, or the first person who notices.
What generated code is usually missing
I always cover these. Depending on the state of the code, the only difference is how much is already done.
- A real database instead of data in memory or in a file that gets overwritten
- Authentication and a separation of who is allowed to see what
- API keys and passwords out of the code and into server configuration
- Error and input handling so the app does not crash on unexpected input
- Daily database backups and a way to roll back
- A domain, an HTTPS certificate and deployment to a server that restarts on its own
- An admin panel where you manage content and users, instead of me going into the database
How deployment works
-
1
I look at the codeSend a link to the project or an export. I will tell you what is missing for production, what it will cost and whether it is worth building on what you have. When you hear back depends on how large the code is.
-
2
I add what production needsDatabase, authentication, security, backups. I leave the features as they are and only rewrite what would fail in production.
-
3
I deploy it to a serverDomain, HTTPS, automatic start after a restart, uptime monitoring.
-
4
I hand over the credentialsThe server, domain and database are in your name. I walk you through running the app and what to do when something stops working.
